World Art Day was celebrated early on Thursday with a cultural event in the old town of North Nicosia. Behind the event, was the Director of the Cultural Department, Nilay Tunçalp, and the musicians and dancers who performed there were names such as opera singer Laden Ince, Deputy Prime Minister and Democratic Party leader Serdar Denktas with two other musicians and violinist Ammar Dadizadeh.
The guests could sip on a glass of wine and were treated to snacks while admiring a photo exhibition by FODER, ceramic arts, and entertainment such as poets reciting poems, and cartoonists drawing caricatures of guests in the audience.
The venue for this cultural event was the Kumarcilar Hani (Gambler’s Inn), a caravansarai from the 17th century, a smaller and more modest version of the nearby Büyük Han (Great Inn).
North Cyprus has a vibrant cultural life with many talented artists, photographers, musicians, actors and dancers. The Cultural Department is very active in its work to encourage creativity and to organise regular events like these to promote cultural life even more.
